The Serbian player defeated Andy Murray 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 in the final to win his first Roland Garros title, thereby completing his Grand Slam collection.

This is Djokovic's 12th Grand Slam title and he is the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all four Grand Slam titles. Djokovic becomes the eighth player in history to collect all four major titles: Australian Open (6), Roland Garros, Wimbledon (3) and US Open (2).

Andy Murray enters the Roland Garros final as the first British player to do so since Bunny Austin in 1937. He has an 11-match winning streak on clay, including beating Djokovic in the Rome Masters final three weeks ago.

Djokovic broke in the first game of the match but lost the next two service games and fell behind 1-4. The world number one did not start well, making many unforced errors and letting Murray win the first set.

In the second set, Murray missed a break-point opportunity in the first game. This also marked Djokovic's comeback. He broke in the next game and repeated the feat in game six to lead 5-1. Djokovic's easy victory in the second set was largely due to Murray not being as proactive as in the first set. The world number two no longer boldly went to the net and fell into a tug-of-war with Djokovic. In addition, Murray's first serve was also very bad. This was the reason why he was broken twice. Djokovic took full advantage of this weakness of his opponent, returning the serve dangerously to force his opponent into a defensive position.

Murray's inherent weakness is his unstable mentality, which once again made him lose to his opponent in handling the game. From the second set onwards, Djokovic often smiled, whether he won or lost the point. Perhaps, the Serbian player understood what was happening to Murray, understood that the flag was in his hands.

The third set was a breeze for Djokovic as he won two consecutive break points in games three and five. In game six, Djokovic saved four break points, making Murray even more nervous. Murray's number of self-inflicted errors increased as the match progressed. Meanwhile, Djokovic showed his brilliance with skillful net saves, making it impossible for Murray to execute his drop shot.

The fourth set was a similar affair. Djokovic scored two break points first. However, Murray fought back strongly in the final games. He broke in game eight to reduce the deficit to 3-5. In game 10, the world number two saved two match points but once again Murray fell to Djokovic in a long rally and had to watch his opponent win the title.

Djokovic has dominated men's tennis for years but has yet to win the Roland Garros title. He has lost three times in the final here but this time the Serbian has fulfilled his dream. He now has the goal of completing the entire Grand Slam in one year, as the legendary Rod Laver did in 1962 and 1969.

"This is a special moment, the biggest moment of my career. The feeling I had today was something I've never experienced at Roland Garros. I felt the love from the crowd," Djokovic said after the match.

For Murray, this was his eighth defeat in a Grand Slam final. The 29-year-old missed the chance to win his third major title after the 2012 US Open and 2013 Wimbledon.
