SheetThe TelegraphOn October 6, Mr. Foggo, Commander of NATO's Joint Forces Command, said that Russia is investing heavily in its submarine fleet and wants to create an "asymmetric threat" to the US and NATO. According to this admiral, the Russian navy knows that it cannot compete with the US in terms of aircraft carriers and large surface warships, so "they continue to research and develop the ability to gain underwater superiority."
According to Mr. Foggo, the Russian Navy currently has six Kilo-class submarines operating in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. When asked whether the US Navy always knows the location of all Russian submarines, Mr. Foggo did not provide details.
In addition, the US admiral also expressed concern that if Russia launched Kalibr cruise missiles from the waters around Europe, it could threaten the capitals of all countries in the region.
There is no information yet on Moscow's reaction to Admiral Foggo's statement.
