Urbanization in Nghe An

(Baonghean.vn) - On April 7, the Provincial People's Committee organized a scientific workshop on "Urbanization process in Nghe An: practical issues and development solutions."

Comrade Huynh Thanh Dien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Comrade Tran Quoc Thanh, Director of the Department of Science and Technology chaired the workshop. Attending the workshop were scientists, professors, doctors, architects and leaders of departments, branches and localities.

According to the approved plan, by 2020, Nghe An will have 144 urban areas of all types. Up to now, the planning work for urban construction has been completed for large and main urban areas; new urban areas and cluster urban centers, communes (towns) are being planned.

In general, urban development in Nghe An in the recent period has increased in quantity. Up to now, the whole province has 23 urban areas of all kinds. The urbanization process contributes to accelerating economic growth, shifting people's activities from area 1 to area 2 and 3.

Urbanization leads to rapid development in education, improving people's intellectual level, healthcare, creating many new jobs for the labor force in the province...

However, besides the achieved results, the urbanization process still has some problems that need to be addressed such as: Uneven urbanization, low urban quality, many indicators of Nghe An urban system have not reached the national average.

The connection between technical infrastructure and social infrastructure is not yet synchronous; the speed of infrastructure construction in most urban areas of Nghe An is slow compared to economic and social development.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Chinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association, exchanged opinions at the workshop.

The question is how to solve the problems that occur in the process of urbanization? At the conference, delegates focused on discussing issues of urban infrastructure, urban economy, urban environment, and urban culture.

At the same time, some practical solutions such as concentrating resources and intelligence, being close to the reality of each locality, suitable to the region to develop Nghe An were proposed.

Scientists and experts also proposed long-term and sustainable orientations for planning, economic development structure, technical infrastructure construction, cultural development, as well as shared experiences and solutions to solve urbanization problems in localities.

Concluding the workshop, Mr. Huynh Thanh Dien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, highly appreciated the opinions of the delegates raised at the workshop, thereby agreeing with the content in the workshop outline, and at the same time requested the relevant Departments, branches and units to absorb and synthesize the opinions to complete the urbanization process in Nghe An, as well as solutions for the province's socio-economic development in the following years.
