During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh always paid attention to the people of the Northwest region in general and the ethnic people of Lai Chau province in particular.

On December 12, 1953, upon receiving the news that Lai Chau town had been liberated, Uncle Ho wrote a letter to the people and cadres of Lai Chau province. In the letter, he kindly inquired, expressed his love, sympathy, sharing, encouragement and motivation to the people and cadres of Lai Chau province.

Uncle Ho advised: “Solidarity, love and mutual assistance; help the army to destroy bandits, eliminate traitors, and maintain order; strive to increase production so that everyone can have enough to eat; be extremely loyal to the Fatherland and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. As for those who previously went astray and followed the enemy, if they return to the Fatherland, the Government will be lenient. Cadres must be truly close to and help the people, putting the interests of the people above all else.”
