The delegation came to offer incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect and build the island. Since 1973, the island has been awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. On the island, there is a Martyrs' Memorial, a stele recording the mark of the anti-American period with proud achievements: fighting 297 aircraft, 64 battles with warships, burning 10 destroyers, 2 cruisers, a commando ship, fighting to relieve the siege of 3,210 boats, rescuing 172 victims. Visiting and giving gifts to Mat Island is an activity within the framework of the program "Youth Union of Provincial Agencies with the Homeland Sea and Islands in 2018". Through the trip, the members of the working delegation were able to conduct field surveys, learn about the lives and activities and feel some of the difficulties of the officers and soldiers stationed on the island; at the same time, raising awareness of the importance of the sea and islands. From there, the Youth Union of Provincial Agencies actively propagated and educated to raise awareness for officers, union members and youth about the role and strategic position of Vietnam's sea and islands; arousing the feelings and sense of responsibility of the youth in the work of building and firmly protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
