Quang Tri Citadel is famous for being the site of an 81-day and night battle between the forces of the Liberation Army of South Vietnam and the alliance of the United States Army and the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. This army had maximum support from heavy artillery, naval gunfire and B-52 bombers of the US army. This battle caused heavy damage to both sides and was considered the fiercest battle of the war. The tug-of-war battle lasted from June 28 to the evening of September 15, known as the "Red Summer of 1972", leaving thousands of soldiers to die in this land. Photo: Tien Hung |
