After just three days of competition, the Vietnamese sports delegation has won five gold medals at the Asian Para Games.
Thus, the Vietnamese Paralympic team has surpassed its pre-competition target of winning more than 3 gold medals. Remarkably, this achievement was accomplished in just 3 days of competition, with the Vietnamese Paralympic team winning 5 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals, ranking 9th overall. While the number of medals isn't large, the quality is very impressive.
On the first day of competition, the Vietnamese Paralympic team set one world record in weightlifting and one Asian record in swimming. Over the two days of competition, October 20th and 21st, the team won three more gold medals, bringing their total to five.

Notably, weightlifter Vo Binh An won the gold medal in the weightlifting event. Competing against five strong opponents, Vo Binh An successfully lifted 179 kg on his second attempt, breaking the Asian record in this event.
Luck smiled upon the Vietnamese sports delegation in the swimming events. Athlete Vo Thanh Tung competed in the 50m backstroke. He fiercely competed with Zhang Chao (China) and brilliantly pulled ahead in the final meters to win the gold medal.
Subsequently, the organizers reconsidered stripping Myanmar of their gold medal in the men's 200m freestyle. The reason was that the Myanmar athlete competed in the wrong disability category. Vo Thanh Tung, who had won the silver medal in this event, was automatically promoted to gold. Thus, swimmer Vo Thanh Tung is the only Vietnamese athlete to have won two gold medals so far.
With 5 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals, the Vietnamese Paralympic team is performing better than expected as the Asian Para Games are only in their third day. At the most recent Asian Para Games (Guangzhou 2010), the team only won 3 gold medals.
