Nghe An businesses invest $200 million in Laos.

(Baonghean.vn) - This information was provided by the leaders of Nghe An province during a working session between the Provincial People's Committee andA delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hung - the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Laos, arrived on the afternoon of December 8th.

Attending the meeting were Comrade Le Ngoc Hoa - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with representatives from several relevant departments and agencies.

In 2016, Nghe An province's foreign relations activities achieved many remarkable results, contributing to socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security. International cooperation continued to be strengthened and proved effective in both breadth and depth.

The province focused on closely directing investment promotion efforts, signing 12 international agreements and attracting 7 FDI projects with a total investment of 28.48 million USD; 4 new ODA projects were approved with a total investment of 399.28 billion VND.

Notably, in the recent period, Nghe An has maintained and developed friendly relations, solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation with the provinces of Laos, achieving many positive results in various fields of activity such as: development support; investment cooperation, production and business activities of Nghe An enterprises in Laos; support for human resource training for neighboring provinces; coordination in the collection of remains of martyrs, etc.

In the coming year, the province has set specific goals and plans to further strengthen international cooperation with potential partners. Specifically, Nghe An will coordinate the inauguration ceremony of the Ho Chi Minh monument in Ulyanovsk province, Russia, followed by investment, trade, and tourism promotion activities in Moscow (Russia); and will explore connecting and contacting potential partners to organize investment promotion activities in Australia...

In addition, along with the Hemaraj industrial park infrastructure investor currently implementing a large-scale project in the province, Nghe An will organize investment promotion activities in Thailand, in parallel with continuing investment promotion activities in South Korea and Japan, which have achieved many successes in the past.

"Nghe An province hopes that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will create favorable conditions to allow it to host a number of international-level diplomatic activities, such as the diplomatic mission event that the province was once honored to host," said Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Ngoc Hoa, proposing to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegation. He added that this would give Nghe An the opportunity to establish relationships with many localities and countries, and to promote foreign relations.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hung congratulated Nghe An on the positive results achieved in foreign affairs in recent times, and highly appreciated the existing potential and advantages for Nghe An to strengthen international cooperation and attract foreign investment.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that Nghe An is on the right track by targeting partners with strong potential and high scientific and technical capabilities such as South Korea, Japan, and Israel... "However, Nghe An's scope of partnerships is still narrow; it needs to focus on expanding and diversifying its international cooperation partners," the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs remarked.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Laos, Nguyen Ba Hung, was impressed by the investment and business activities of Nghe An enterprises in Laos.

“I am particularly impressed and highly appreciate Nghe An's investment activities in Laos, evidenced by the concrete figure of 90 enterprises with a total investment of over 200 million USD,” shared the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Laos, expressing his hope that Nghe An will continue to develop and build a perpetually vibrant and sustainable relationship with its neighbor Laos.

Besides committing to further strengthen cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the province, Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hung also emphasized the role of two-way information exchange between Nghe An and the Ministry and suggested that provincial departments and agencies coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a number of central ministries and agencies to organize exchange sessions, disseminate knowledge, and enhance awareness for businesses in the context of integration.
