Delegates at the conference said that the Mekong Delta is an important economic region of Vietnam, a place that produces and supplies rice, rice, and other staple foods for the whole country. On the other hand, the Mekong Delta has an important position connecting the Mekong sub-region and a favorable position in terms of trade distance in Southeast Asia. However, with such potential advantages, in recent times, investment and business exploitation in these areas have not achieved the desired results.
Therefore, the Japanese representative affirmed that cooperation between Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises is what Japan is moving towards, including the Mekong Delta region. From the investor's perspective, the Mekong Delta is the region with the greatest potential for agriculture and aquaculture. Therefore, investing here will be the top priority of Japanese enterprises with support in science and technology as well as helping Vietnam train high-quality human resources.
According to Mr. Vo Hung Dung, Director of VCCI Can Tho branch, the investment opportunities in the Mekong Delta are huge with the fields that have been bringing investors clear profits. In particular, the investment environment has been significantly improved recently, in which preferential policies for enterprises have been of interest to managers, creating openness in investment and development.
Regarding transport infrastructure, there are also ports, bridges and areas providing electricity. Regarding human resources, the Mekong Delta used to be considered a low-lying area in terms of human resource training, but today it has its own characteristics. That is, the labor force is very abundant. The investment environment has been improved. This is a very clear commitment shown through the relatively stable PCI competitiveness index of the Mekong Delta provinces in the past three years.
On this occasion, provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region also introduced and called for investment in 74 priority projects focusing on areas such as: High-tech agriculture, aquaculture at sea; processing industry; production of construction materials, new technology; urban construction, technology zones, industrial park infrastructure. In addition, the provinces also called for investment in 10 other projects such as: An Giang Airport; concentrated information technology zone; drainage and wastewater treatment system; solid waste treatment area./.
