September 1, 2017 08:31

According to Navigos Search, there is a case of recruiting a senior IT candidate with a salary of 7,000 USD, however, to get this job, the candidate must persevere through 15 rounds of interviews.

Ms. Nguyen Phuong Mai - CEO of Navigos Search company gave the above information at the seminar "How to get a salary of 5000 USD?" at the Tech Expo 2017 event organized by VietnamWorks and TopItworks (under Navigos Group) recently.

Specifically, according to Ms. Mai, according to Navigos Search's records, there is a case of recruiting a senior IT candidate with a salary of 7,000 USD, however, to get this job, the candidate must also persevere through 15 rounds of interviews including professional knowledge, skills, personality tests, IQ,...

Discussing the limitations that affect the ability to receive a "huge" salary, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Mai - CEO of Navigos Search company expressed her opinion: Vietnamese IT candidates often ask for high benefits for themselves before contributing to the success of the company, this attitude makes businesses hesitant to pay high salaries to candidates.

According to Ms. Mai, in addition to skills and knowledge, IT recruiters are very interested in the attitude of candidates. Building a personal image is extremely important because recruiters can consider the candidate's behavior on social networks.

“So, be consistent in your personal brand across both social media and in real life, and contribute to the company's success before asking for more in return.”

On the same day, VietnamWorks and TopItworks also announced a mid-year 2017 IT salary report. The report's content is based on a survey of more than 800 IT candidates in Vietnam.

According to the report, Saas application programming group leads in salary, with up to 50% of candidates participating in the survey having experience in this application field.

The Embedded Systems application group is the second highest paid, but only 15% of survey respondents have experience in this area.

Up to 67% of the candidates participating in the survey belong to the web programming group, however the salary for this group is the second lowest, only higher than the game programming group.

The survey shows that candidates with C++ programming skills have the highest salaries compared to other skills, candidates with C++ skills have salaries about 10% higher than candidates with Java programming skills.

Java skills are the second highest paid group. Next are HTML/CSS/JS, .NET, PHP, there is not much difference in salary between these groups, the difference is only about 2-3%.

According to the survey results conducted by VietnamWorks and topITworks, the salary increase rate based on different positions is as follows: Project manager is 30% higher than team leader; Team leader is 31% higher than programmer; Programmer is 5% higher than product tester.

However, according to the report, for the same position, companies still rank salaries based on experience, so it does not mean that when changing positions, you will immediately receive a suddenly high salary as above.

To increase salary dramatically, IT people need to learn foreign languages.

Surveys show that language is a factor that helps IT people get a high salary. However, language ability is also one of the limitations of candidates in the IT field.

According to VietnamWorks and topITworks, candidates with advanced Japanese skills at N1 level have salaries about 40% higher than candidates with N5 level, however, only 1% of survey participants have N1 level.

Meanwhile, candidates with advanced English skills are paid about 48% more than candidates with basic English skills. Only 22% of survey respondents said they had advanced English skills.

The survey also showed that 47% of the candidates participating in the survey said they intended to change jobs within the next 6 months, 40% said they felt satisfied with their jobs and 30% hesitated with the question, 26% said they were not satisfied with their current jobs.

When asked what factors would make them feel more satisfied at work, 30% said that an improved working environment, 25% wanted a better work-life balance, and 21% felt that a salary increase would determine their level of satisfaction.
