3D road markings "trick" drivers' vision.

“We are trying to use 3D drawings as a ‘brake’ tool for drivers who are speeding,” India’s Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said in a recent statement. The idea comes after the Indian government decided to remove all speed breakers from highways earlier this month because they were too dangerous for high-speed drivers.

,
3D road markings are hoped to help reduce the number of traffic accidents in India.

Initial testing shows that when drivers encounter 3D road markings, they pay more attention and slow down instead of deliberately rushing across as they would with “traditional” white lines. This allows pedestrians more time to cross the road, making it safer.

The eye-catching colors of 3D road markings also make drivers pay more attention.
