Unique 'sugarcane beauty pageant' in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - Accordingly, the title "sugarcane queen" is given to the sugarcane plant with the best height, weight and sugar storage.

From February 15 to February 28, NASU Sugar Company organized the "Sugarcane Beauty Queen" contest in 2023. The contest attracted 32 agricultural extension officers and households representing 5 sugarcane growing regions of Phu Quy to participate in the contest.
Accordingly, participating farmers choose sugarcane from sugarcane fields with data in the 2022-2023 crushing season, cut 3 plants (leaving the tops and plants intact), and record full information to trace the origin: farmer's full name; address, phone number of sugarcane owner; contract; serial number; plot; area; sugarcane field location; sugarcane variety and type.

The sugarcane bundles and related information will be sent to the contest Secretariat; the Jury will judge the contest based on the following criteria: height, weight of sugarcane (in kg); sugar content (CCS); average sugar yield/1 sugarcane.
Mr. Phan Van Toan - a member of the Organizing Committee of the contest said: "The purpose of the contest is to find typical examples of applying science and technology to intensive farming to increase sugarcane productivity to have large and beautiful sugarcane plants, thereby promoting for many other farmers to learn and follow. The criteria for awarding the "sugarcane beauty queen" (large and beautiful sugarcane plants) are height, weight and sugar storage".

Accordingly, the crown for this year's Miss Sugarcane belongs to the sugarcane model of farmer Tran Thi Hai in Quyet Thang hamlet, Nghia Thinh commune (Nghia Dan); Second Prize belongs to the sugarcane model of farmer Tran Van Thong in Dong Hoi hamlet, Nghia Hoi commune (Nghia Dan); Third Prize belongs to the sugarcane model of farmer Ho Cong Tam in hamlet 7, Quynh Tam (Quynh Luu).
