The skyscraper design competition recently organized by architecture magazine eVolo attracted 444 entries, including 22 honored designs and three winners, and showed visionary ideas for building high-rise buildings, according to Mirror.
The competition highlights skyscraper designs that use new technologies, materials, aesthetics and spatial organization, organizers said. It also challenges understandings of vertical architecture and its relationship with the natural and built environment.
The first prize was awarded to the Mashambas skyscraper project by Polish architects Pawel Lipinski and Mateusz Frankowski. Their idea is to create a modular building for sub-Saharan Africa that could include a school and market.
One of the standout designs is a building that is embedded into the side of Yosemite Mountain in the US. Next to it is a structure designed to sit on an iceberg in Antarctica. It is not the most realistic arrangement, but the simulation is said to be very eye-catching.

However, none of the designs received any funding from the competition. The winners were given a cash prize and a certain level of publicity, in the hope of seeing their work become a reality.
