Spent all your billions of bank loans on online gambling
(Baonghean.vn) - Tran Van Son was trusted by Mr. Tuan and his wife to borrow their bank account to transfer a loan of more than 1.2 billion VND. However, when the bank sent the money, Son took it all to gamble online without giving it to his friend.
Nghe An Provincial People's Court has just opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Tran Van Son (born 1991), residing in Cam Son commune, Anh Son district, for the crime of "Abuse of trust, appropriation of property".
According to the indictment, Mr. Duong Anh Tuan (born in 1981), residing in Dinh Son commune (Anh Son), and his wife signed a loan contract with Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank, Nghe An branch (VPBank) for an amount of 1.26 billion VND.
Because they were acquaintances and had lived together, Mr. Tuan asked Tran Van Son to lend him his account to transfer the loan amount to Son's account. Son would then withdraw the money and pay it back to Mr. Tuan and his wife.

After Son agreed, Mr. Tuan and his wife completed the procedure with VPBank to transfer money into Son's account.
On the evening of December 23, 2020, VPBank transferred 1.26 billion VND to Son's account. After receiving the money, Son did not transfer the above amount to Mr. Tuan but had the intention of using that amount toonline gambling.
On December 24, 2020, Son transferred 1.199 billion VND to another bank account of his to gamble online. Son continued to gamble the remaining money online and lost it all.
After spending all of Mr. Tuan's money, on December 28, 2020, Tran Van Son went to the Vinh City Police Department to surrender and confessed to all his crimes.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment. Son stated that he had invested all the money he had embezzled from Mr. Tuan and his wife in virtual currency and online gambling, and was unable to repay the debt.
Attending the trial, the victim requested that the defendant return all the money that Son had embezzled.
After a comprehensive review of the case, the People's Court sentenced Tran Van Son to 14 years in prison for "Abuse of trust to appropriate property", forcing the defendant to return the money he had appropriated to the victim.
