Vietnam youth football team unexpectedly created an earthquake against U16 Man City in the international tournament
It's hard to believe but it's true. Vietnam's U16 PVF team just defeated U16 Man City at the Shanghai Future Star Cup 2023 held in China.
Shanghai Future Star Cup 2023 is an international friendly tournament taking place in China. Vietnam is represented by the PVF U16 team. Coach Nguyen Duy Dong and his team are in the same group with Man City U16 (England), Ulsan Hyundai U16 (Korea) and Aspire Academy U16 (Qatar).
After a regrettable 1-2 loss to U16 Ulsan Hyundai in the opening match, U16 PVF excellently defeated U16 Man City 2-1 on August 29 despite not being rated as highly as their opponent before the match.
U16 Man City has many players with excellent individual skills, speed and outstanding physical strength. Man City also has a high-quality youth player scouting and training system.
Facing an opponent that was superior in every aspect, U16 PVF still caused a big surprise. With a tight defensive style of play, combined with quick counter-attacks, Coach Nguyen Duy Dong's students created an earthquake.
U16 PVF boldly controlled the ball to attack and quickly opened the score in the 12th minute with an accurate shot by Huy Long. In the 14th minute, U16 Man City equalized 1-1 thanks to Jose Roca. Right at the beginning of the second half, U16 PVF scored a goal to raise the score to 2-1. Quang Tu's powerful shot made goalkeeper Whatmuff unable to catch the ball. Huy Long then rushed in to score the rebound to raise the score to 2-1.
During the remaining time of the second half, U16 PVF defended reasonably, while proactively deploying the ball from home to neutralize the opponent's pressure.
Le Phat and his teammates played resiliently and focused, successfully defending the 2-1 score until the referee blew the whistle to end the match even though U16 Man City continuously dribbled the ball into U16 PVF's penalty area in the final minutes.
With this victory, U16 PVF has the first 3 points and has many opportunities to enter the semi-finals of Shanghai Future Star Cup 2023. In the next match, U16 PVF will face U16 Aspire Academy on August 31.
