Premier League's most expensive rookie squad summer 2018
At 11pm on August 9, the 2018 summer transfer window closed for Premier League clubs. Below is the most expensive new signings in each position.
Right-back (Diogo Dalot, £19m):Dalot is one of two new recruits of Manchester United in the summer of 2018. He joined Old Trafford from FC Porto. Dalot is a long-term option for the "Red Devils" when he was only 19 years old. The Portuguese talent's best position is right-back. In addition, Dalot can play left-back, or center-back if Jose Mourinho needs. |
Left-back (Lucas Digne, 18 million):Lucas Digne has failed to compete with Jordi Alba for a place at Barcelona and is looking for a new club. Everton were quick to sign Digne for £18m. Digne is seen as the perfect replacement for Leighton Baines at left-back. |
Central midfielder (Jorginho, £53m):Jorginho was the top target of MU and Man City. However, when coach Maurizio Sarri took over at Chelsea, Jorginho decided to follow the call of his close teacher. Coach Pep Guardiola revealed that he was very angry when he lost "precious gem" Jorginho to Chelsea. |
Central midfielder (Naby Keita, 52.8 million):Immediately after signing Fabinho, Liverpool continued to strengthen their midfield by signing Naby Keita. Keita attracted Liverpool's attention after two excellent seasons with Leipzig in the Bundesliga. He played 71 matches in all competitions, scoring 17 goals. |
Central midfielder (Fred, £52.5m):Fred is MU's only quality signing in the summer of 2018. Before moving to Manchester, Fred was an irreplaceable pillar of Shakhtar Donetsk. The Brazilian midfielder is highly regarded for his excellent technical skills and excellent ball circulation. |
Right forward (Riyad Mahrez, £60m):Like their “neighbors”, Man City only had one notable signing in the summer of 2018, Riyad Mahrez. In exchange for the Algerian midfielder’s signature, Man City had to pay Leicester City £60 million. In January 2017, Man City could have brought Mahrez to Etihad for a much cheaper price, but Leicester was determined to keep their mainstay. |
Centre-forward (Richarlison, £44m):Everton surprised the football world by daring to spend 44 million pounds on a young talent like Richarlison. In the 2017/18 season, Richarlison played for Watford, played 41 matches in all competitions, and scored 5 goals. Richarlison is a typical image of the transfer market during the "price storm" in the Premier League. |
Felipe Anderson (West Ham, £44m):In order to strengthen the squad, West Ham agreed to spend 44 million pounds to bring in star Felipe Anderson. Anderson became the most expensive player in West Ham's history. Before moving to the Premier League, Anderson played for Lazio. In the 2017/18 season, he played 21 matches, scoring 4 goals. |
