Ukrainian opposition launches another wave of protests at the start of the new year.
On January 5th, more than 10,000 people gathered in the center of Kyiv to participate in the first large-scale march of the New Year 2014 by the opposition, as protests against the Ukrainian government's cancellation of the association agreement with the European Union (EU) entered their seventh week.

Opposition leaders, including former world heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Kilitschko, have urged protesters to continue their standoff at Independence Square (Maidan) – where demonstrators have been stationed since November 2013.
