The U.S. State Department announced on May 13 that the sixth U.S.-China Economic and Strategic Dialogue will be held in Beijing in early July.

According to a statement from the US State Department spokesperson's office, cited by a TTXVN correspondent in Washington, Secretary of State John Kerry and Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, acting as special representatives of President Barack Obama, will participate in the 6th US-China Economic and Strategic Dialogue in Beijing in early July with their Chinese counterparts, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Vice Premier Wang Yang, along with other members of the US and Chinese dialogue delegations.

At this 6th dialogue, the two sides will focus on discussing the challenges and opportunities facing both countries, both in bilateral relations, regionally and globally, in areas of mutual interest, both in the short and long term.

The dialogue also follows up on topics that Secretary of State John Kerry discussed with the Chinese side during his visit to Beijing last February and during Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew's visit this week.

At the 5th Dialogue in July 2013 in Washington, D.C., Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang stated that the two sides had achieved nearly 90 important results on macroeconomic issues, trade, investment, and finance, including promoting structural economic reforms and balanced, sustainable growth.

Both sides increased cooperation within the framework of international organizations such as the G20 and APEC; supported multilateral trading systems and opposed trade protectionism; enhanced financial cooperation on financial management, financial law enforcement, cross-border financial supervision; and strengthened dialogue and coordination on issues related to Iran, Syria, Afghanistan, etc.

Regarding the South China Sea and East China Sea, during his meeting with Wang Yang and Yang Jiechi at the White House, President Obama urged China to resolve maritime disputes with its neighbors peacefully, without threats or coercion.

President Obama also expressed disappointment and concern about China's handling of the case of former US intelligence analyst Edward Snowden.

During the dialogue, US officials also stated that China had gone too far in its cyber espionage activities.

The U.S. also complains about China's exchange rate policy, which it considers unfair because it gives an advantage to Chinese exports to the U.S. market.
