Defendant Thi in court |
Having made a plan, on the evening of July 2, 2013, Thi took a 50cm long bamboo stick to Mrs. Huy's house. When she reached the gate, Thi hid the stick outside and went inside to sit down. At 11pm that same day, when Mrs. Huy was asleep, Thi came out and took the bamboo stick and hit Mrs. Huy twice in the head, killing her on the spot.
Thi quickly took off Mrs. Huy's gold earrings before leaving the scene. On the way back, he threw the bamboo stick into the river to destroy the evidence.
On the morning of July 3, Thi took a bus to Dung town (Thanh Chuong district) to sell a pair of gold earrings for 3,200,000 VND. Knowing that he could not escape punishment, 2 days later, Thi went to the authorities to confess his crime.
The panel sentenced defendant Thi to a total sentence of life imprisonment.
