The suspect in the case of using a hammer to beat to death his 'love rival' in Nghe An was sentenced to life in prison.
(Baonghean.vn) - Tuong drove his motorbike after Mr. H. who was riding an electric motorbike in front. Tuong approached, used a hammer to hit Mr. H. hard on the head, causing the victim to fall down, then continuously hit Mr. H. in the head with the hammer 3 times, leading to his death.
On July 20, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of Nguyen Dinh Tuong (born 1974), residing in Nghia Binh commune, Nghia Dan, for the crime of "Murder". The victim in the case was Mr. H. - the owner of the business where Tuong's wife worked.
Because her husband repeatedly beat and threatened her for no reason, Tuong's wife left to go back to her mother's house. After many unsuccessful attempts to persuade her to return, Tuong thought that his wife was having an affair with Mr. H. and so he hatched the idea of killing him.

On the afternoon of October 6, 2019, Nguyen Dinh Tuong drove a motorbike following Mr. H. while he was riding an electric motorbike on National Highway 48E. When he reached Tan Mai block, Nghia Dan town, Tuong approached and used a hammer he had prepared in advance to hit Mr. H. hard on the head, causing the victim to fall down. Tuong stopped his motorbike, approached and hit Mr. H. in the head with the hammer three times in a row.
After committing the crime, Tuong ran away, throwing away the weapon. Mr. H. was discovered by local people and taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, but later died from a traumatic brain injury.
During the investigation, the police requested a forensic psychiatric assessment of Nguyen Dinh Tuong. The results showed that “before, during, and after committing the crime and at the time of the crime, Nguyen Dinh Tuong suffered from mild mood (emotional) disorders. At these times, the defendant had the ability to perceive and had limited ability to control his behavior.”
At the trial, defendant Tuong admitted his crime. He apologized to the victim and asked for a lighter sentence so he could return home soon.
Considering the case in its entirety, the panel sentenced Nguyen Dinh Tuong to life in prison for "Murder". In civil matters, the court ordered defendant Tuong to compensate the victim nearly 190 million VND; provide monthly child support for Mr. H's daughter 1 million VND until she becomes an adult; and provide monthly child support for Mr. H's mother 500,000 VND.
