The Vietnam U16 women's team lost 0-3 to South Korea.
Despite their best efforts, the Vietnamese U16 women's team suffered a 0-3 defeat against their stronger opponent, South Korea.
The loss against South Korea was the second match for the Vietnam U16 team in the 2015 AFC U16 Women's Championship qualifiers currently taking place in Melaka, Malaysia.
Facing a strong South Korean opponent in Group C, coach Luu Ngoc Mai made several adjustments to the starting lineup and tactics. Accordingly, the Vietnamese U16 women's team was instructed to confidently control the ball, attack, press aggressively, and be flexible in every situation, instead of passively defending in their own half as in the first match against Australia.
Despite this, with their height advantage and fast-paced style of play, the South Korean U16 women's team quickly took the initiative and continuously pressured their opponents. In the 29th minute, taking advantage of a chaotic situation in front of goalkeeper Nguyen Thi Loan's goal, Park Hyejeong scored the opening goal, giving the South Korean women's team the lead.
In the final minutes of the first half, Yang Hye Jeong easily doubled South Korea's lead with a precise finish, unmarked by any Vietnamese player.
In the second half, coach Luu Ngoc Mai's players continued to play solid defense, but as their stamina waned, the Vietnam U16 women's team conceded a third goal in the 66th minute and ultimately lost 0-3 to South Korea.
The other match in Group C between Australia and Hong Kong (China) ended with an impressive 10-0 victory for the Australian team. This result means that the Australian U16 team has moved to the top of the group after two matches, although they have the same 6 points as South Korea, but are ranked higher due to a better goal difference.
Group C will have to wait until the match between these two opponents tomorrow (October 8th) to determine which team will qualify for the 2014 AFC U16 Women's Championship finals.
Also on October 8th, the Vietnamese national team will play their final match against Hong Kong (China) at the Hang Tuah Stadium in Melaka, Malaysia.
