Vietnam team and 16 unbeaten matches, not a record
(Baonghean.vn) - With the achievement of winning the AFF Cup 2018 without losing any match, the Vietnam national team has had 8 more matches to extend the record of "the national team currently holding the longest unbeaten streak". However, the longest unbeaten streak ever set is more than double the number of matches that the Vietnam national team currently holds.
16 unbeaten matches in all competitions
According to FIFA schedule, since losing to Iraq on March 29, 2016, Vietnam has been unbeaten in 16 matches and our team has currently held the longest unbeaten streak with 9 wins and 7 draws.
Since the loss to Indonesia in the first leg of the AFF Cup 2016 Semi-Final on December 3, 2016, if counting by the number of recent matches (including matches not on the FIFA schedule, including the AFF Cup), Vietnam is also unbeaten.
Previously, the French national team had maintained a 15-match unbeaten streak. However, after losing 0-2 to the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League, the 2018 World Cup champions are no longer unbeaten. And so, at the present time, only the Vietnamese national team has the opportunity to improve this impressive streak.

Not a record yet
Currently, the longest unbeaten streak at the national team level is held by Brazil and Spain, both with 35 consecutive matches without a loss. Coming in third is Argentina with 31 matches, followed by France and Italy with 30 unbeaten matches.
Under coaches Carlos Alberto Parreira and Mario Zagallo, the yellow-green team went undefeated from February 16, 1993 to January 18, 1996. During this period, Brazil won the 1994 World Cup in the United States.
Spain under Luis Aragones & Vicente Del Bosque were unbeaten from 7 February 2007 to 20 June 2009. During this historic run, Spain won the Euro 2008 championship.

Argentina went unbeaten in 31 matches from February 19, 1991 to August 8, 1993 under coach Alfio Basile.
Thus, it can be seen that the achievements of the Vietnam National Team are nothing compared to the records that have been recorded in world football. In the near future, the Vietnam National Team will have to compete in the 2019 Asian Cup, an official tournament of the Asian Football Federation.
In the group stage, Vietnam is in the same group with Iran, Iraq and Yemen, very strong teams from West Asia. Hopefully, Vietnam will have good results to pass the group stage and extend the number to increase the unbeaten streak in this tournament.
