Long-range attack of Vietnam's CSB 8020 ship
According to MarineTraffic, the CSB 8020 ship with long-range gunboat is ready to depart from Hawaii (USA) to Vietnam.
This source said that the Vietnam Coast Guard (CSB) has received the ship and is being trained and coached to use the ship in the US.
In addition, the ship was painted with the CSB Vietnam insignia in both Vietnamese and English and flew the Vietnamese national flag.
According to information released by the US Coast Guard, because they were designed for maritime patrol, all ships in the same class as the USCGC Morgenthau (before being renamed CSB 8020) were equipped with a helicopter landing deck with the ability to carry certain types of naval helicopters.

Regarding the weapon system on the USCGC Morgenthau after being transferred to Vietnam, it is equipped with the OTO Melara 76mm naval gun. As the most popular naval gun in the world, the OTO Melara 76/62 76mm caliber naval gun is currently used by the navies of 59 countries around the world.
Currently, there are 3 versions of the OTO Melara 76/62 gunboat: OTO Melara 76/62 Compact, 76/62 Super Rapid and 76/62 Strales. Compared to the 76/62 Compact version, the Super Rapid version has more advantages such as: superior firing speed of 120 rounds/minute compared to the Compact version of only 85 rounds/minute, the reloading system in the Super Rapid version is also improved with faster reloading speed.
The most important feature that makes the OTO Melara 76/62 gun so popular in the Navies of many countries is the variety of ammunition used. Currently, the 76/62 Super Rapid version can fire ammunition such as:
The standard HE shell weighs 6,296 kg, has a maximum range of 16 km, and an effective range of 8 km (4 km against aircraft). The SAPOM shell weighs 6.35 kg, has a maximum range of 16 km (20 km with the SAPOMER version) and is most notably the Vulcano guided artillery shell.
Developed from 2011-2014, the 76mm Vulcano is a miniature version of the 127mm and 155mm Vulcano, weighing only 5kg. The Vulcano has a range of up to 40km, twice that of current 76mm artillery shells, thanks to the application of many new technologies to increase the range.
In addition, Vulcano is also equipped with a GPS-IMU navigation system and infrared sensors at the bullet head, helping the bullet to shoot very accurately at the target.
Currently, OTO Breda has completed the research and manufacture of Vulcano bullets and is ready to sell them to customers starting in 2015. If equipped with Vulcano bullets, the power of Vietnam's CSB 8020 ship will be significantly increased.
With its superior range (40km) and high-precision guidance system of Vulcano bullets, the OTO Melara gunboat can attack targets such as warships or support landings and destroy enemy shore targets.
In addition to the OTO Melara gun, the USCGC Morgenthau ship when handed over to Vietnam is also equipped with the Phalanx CIWS close-in weapon system. With a 6-barrel 20mm automatic gun, the Phalanx has a maximum rate of fire of up to 4,500 rounds/minute, capable of intercepting all low-altitude flying targets at a distance of no less than 3km.
