Donald Trump suddenly fired FBI Director

"Today, President Donald Trump informed FBI Director James Comey that his authority has been terminated and he has been removed from office," White House spokesman Sean Spicer said in a statement.

The White House also added that a search has begun for a new FBI Director.

"The FBI is one of the most beloved and respected agencies in the world, and today marks the beginning of a new era," Trump said.

FBI Director James Comey was fired on the recommendation of the US Department of Justice.

"The credibility of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) under the leadership of James Comey has been severely affected over the years, US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein stated.
