Donald Trump quits business to avoid conflicts of interest

Mr. Donald Trump announced that he will completely "leave" his business interests, to avoid getting caught up in conflicts of interest once he takes office as President.

The US president-elect, who has been criticised for refusing to relinquish ownership of his business empire, said he will hold a formal press conference on December 15 to announce details surrounding his business.

On his personal Twitter page, he wrote: “I will be holding a press conference in New York City with my children on December 15 to announce that I will be leaving my long-standing business empire to focus all my time on leading the country, thereby “Making America Great Again!”

Mr. Trump said that although he is not required to do so by law, he believes that this is necessary as President, to avoid conflicts of interest with different jobs. For him, the duties of the President are much more important than business activities.

During his campaign, Mr. Trump always declared that he would hand over the management of his business to his children if he was elected to the White House. However, critics said that Mr. Trump could still influence the business, thereby benefiting from the policies he pursues when taking office as President.
