Highlanders make offerings to teachers on Teachers' Day
(Baonghean.vn) - Every year, on November 20, the Mong people of Pha Khao village, Mai Son commune (Tuong Duong) organize a ceremony to honor teachers, the people who are teaching their children day and night.
Making a wish is a long-standing traditional custom of ethnic minorities in the highlands. Through hand-tied threads, villagers pray for teachers to always be safe, happy, lucky, and healthy to teach the children in the village.
The ceremony to honor teachers is usually held at the village chief's house, with participants including the management board, village elders, youth, women and a large number of villagers. Therefore, even though the rice fields have not been harvested yet, no one is allowed to be absent on the day of the ceremony, as this is an important day for the villagers.

Teacher Dao Xuan Hai, Principal of Mai Son Primary School, said: "The people consider November 20 as a New Year's Day, so on the day of the teachers' death anniversary, the villagers all dress beautifully and formally. Accordingly, along with the wrist-tying ceremony, they wish the teachers health, happiness, luck, etc. The flowers and gifts that the villagers send to their teachers are also very ordinary, simple, and rustic, such as pumpkins, gourds, sticky rice... products made by the villagers' own hands. But hidden in them is the heart and gratitude."
