During the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, the Vietnamese volunteer army and experts on international missions in Laos have always fought bravely alongside the army and people of Laos. Many officers, soldiers and experts have fallen in Laos. The heroic sacrifice of the martyrs has reminded us to always be proud of the glorious past of the nation and the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

The Vietnam-Laos International Martyrs’ Cemetery was built in 1976 on an area of nearly 7 hectares and is the largest cemetery gathering the graves of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos. This is also the only cemetery in Vietnam named after two countries and two peoples, Vietnam and Laos, and is a symbolic work of the loyal and steadfast solidarity of the two brotherly peoples.
