The earthquake's focal depth is approximately 10km, located in Dien Chau district, Nghe An province.

According to Mr. Ngo Dinh Tuu, Deputy Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Dien Chau District: "We were sitting in a meeting when we felt the building shaking. Everyone ran out of the meeting hall."
