According to Xinhua News Agency, the Hong Kong Observatory reported that a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck New Zealand at 6:49 AM (GMT) on January 19th.

The earthquake shook the South Island region of the country.
The initial epicenter was determined to be at 47 degrees South latitude and 165.70 degrees East longitude.
