Earthquake in Myanmar, Thailand declares state of emergency

A 30-story building under construction in Bangkok collapsed after a strong tremor, according to the Thai Emergency Management Center, Xinhua news agency. Many people are believed to be trapped inside.
Residents in high-rise buildings fled in panic as the strong tremors occurred. Some subway and skytrain lines were also temporarily suspended due to the earthquake. In addition, strong shaking was also felt in the city of Chiang Mai.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), at around 1:20 p.m. on March 28 (local time), a magnitude 7.7 earthquake occurred about 16 km north-northwest of Sagaing, Myanmar. Meanwhile, information from the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) said that at the same time in Myanmar, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake occurred.
The earthquake affected several countries in the region, including Vietnam and Thailand.
