Earthquake in India kills more than 70 people
On the afternoon of May 1, a 5.8-magnitude earthquake occurred in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in northern India, killing two people, injuring 69 others, and collapsing dozens of buildings in the area.

Kishtwar and Doda districts in Jammu and Kashmir state were the two worst affected by the earthquake, with nearly 400 houses, schools, and hospitals collapsed or cracked, and people panicked and ran into the streets.
Among the 69 injured in the two districts, 32 were students. The earthquake also caused tremors in many other areas in northern India, including the capital New Delhi.
Meanwhile, the US Geological Survey said a 5.7-magnitude earthquake shook the Honshu coast in eastern Japan in the early morning of May 2. The epicenter of the earthquake was initially determined to be 17.9km deep./.
