A precious Rolex watch owned by the last Emperor of Vietnam is set to go under the hammer for a second time by auction house Phillips, in what is expected to be the most expensive Rolex ever sold.

According to Forbes, Phillips auction house, which has headquarters in both London, England and New York, USA, has announced the auction of King Bao Dai's Rolex watch with an expected price of up to 3 million Swiss francs (about 69 billion VND).

The auction will take place on May 13-14 at the Hôtel La Réserve, Geneva, Switzerland. If a buyer is found, King Bao Dai's watch will become the most expensive Rolex watch in the world.

The Rolex 6062 Oyster Perpetual of King Bao Dai is the most notable watch in the upcoming auction. According to the representative of Phillips auction house, this is the “most valuable and rare Rolex watch” and the “most complex and iconic” Oyster model created by the Swiss watchmaker.

"This Rolex watch could even surpass the record price of 2.4 million Swiss francs (55 billion VND) set in 2016 by a Rolex Reference 4113 Split-Seconds, manufactured in 1942," a representative of Phillips auction house emphasized.

Emperor Bao Dai ordered the Rolex 6062 Oyster Perpetual watch in the spring of 1954, when he went to Geneva, Switzerland to attend a peace conference.

"To meet the king's demanding requirements, we had to send a Rolex 6062 Oyster Perpetual watch with an entire case and bracelet made of 18K gold," Rolex said.

The case is also equipped with a special waterproof feature called Oyster, which is a symbol of luxury Rolex watches. Of the three Rolex 6062 Oyster Perpetual diamond-set watches that Rolex has ever produced, King Bao Dai's watch is the only one to have diamonds set on the even hour markers.

King Bao Dai's Rolex watch was put up for sale by Phillips auction house in 2002. The watch was then the most expensive Rolex ever auctioned.

Phillips Auction House will also sell other notable Rolex models such as Gold Oyster Paul Newman Chronograph, Reference 6263; Neptune, Reference 8382; Stainless Steel, Reference 6062... but none of the watches are as expensive as King Bao Dai's Rolex./.
