(Baonghean) - With a large area and many potentials gradually being awakened, Western Nghe An is transforming with remarkable industrial development steps.

Effective exploitation of hydropower projects

In the first 8 months of 2016, Ban Ve Hydropower Plant (Tuong Duong) produced over 500 million kWh of electricity, achieved revenue of nearly 600 billion VND, paid VAT of 50.52 billion VND, and contributed more than 9 billion VND to the forest environment fund. Meanwhile, Hua Na Hydropower Plant contributed over 200 million kWh to the national grid and a significant budget source, while creating jobs for hundreds of local workers...

From 2010 to 2015, according to the assessment of the Provincial People's Committee, hydropower is a strongly developing field, effectively exploiting the potential of the West, generating 6 more hydropower plants with a capacity of 366MW, including: Nam Mo, Khe Bo, Hua Na, Nam Pong, Nam Non, Nam Can 2; bringing the total number of projects generating electricity in the area to 10 plants with a total generating capacity of 708.5 MW. In addition, there are 11 hydropower projects under construction with a total capacity of 223.4 MB including: Song Quang, Chau Thang, Nhan Hac, Dong Van, Chi Khe, Ban Ang, Xoong Con, Khe Thoi, Ca Loi, Ca Nan 1, Ca Nan 2, and 6 projects are preparing to invest with a total capacity of 334 MW.

The issue is to exploit hydropower potential but must ensure harmony in downstream safety and environmental protection. To achieve that goal, in 2015, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee sent an official dispatch to the Provincial People's Committee regarding not continuing to research and survey to establish hydropower projects in the area (including projects already in the planning), assigning the Provincial People's Committee to review and report to the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to remove from the planning hydropower projects that do not have investors. Thus, the development of hydropower potential will focus on sustainable solutions, improving efficiency associated with protecting ecological balance, the environment...

Projects that drive development

From the perspective of each locality, attracting businesses to invest in industrial development is focused on and considered an important boost. Thai Hoa town currently has 243 businesses operating in the area, contributing about 70-80 billion VND to the provincial budget each year, creating jobs for thousands of local workers.

In Quy Hop, the industrial production value in the first 9 months of the year reached 2,048,682 million VND, reaching 69.95% of the yearly plan. Tin output reached 751 tons, diameter 66,210 tons, boulder 620,000 tons, superfine stone powder 580,000 tons... Achieving such results is due to the fact that the area has many concentrated industrial clusters (ICs) such as Thung Khuoc, Chau Quang and Chau Hong ICs, attracting hundreds of enterprises to invest in processing white stone for export, tin, forest products...

The district continues to plan 3 industrial parks: Tho Son 1, Tho Son 2 (Tho Hop commune) and Chau Loc; at the same time, plan 6 concentrated stone processing areas. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung - Chairman of Quy Hop district People's Committee affirmed: "Industry is the main direction of the district. Accordingly, in the coming time, the district will add more industrial clusters and encourage deep processing, high-tech projects, minimizing environmental pollution...".

Affirming the role of industrial projects for the West, Mr. Nguyen Huy Cuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said: Industrial projects have helped the growth pole of the West of Nghe An develop, effectively exploiting the potential of hydropower, forests, land, and minerals of the West. From there, many jobs are created; transportation and infrastructure are expanded and upgraded; people's lives are improved. However, the West still needs modern, high-tech, clean processing projects, and dynamic projects that have a "turnaround" nature for the West. On that basis, all levels of the industry advise the province to have solutions to rectify, review planning, encourage high-tech projects, resolutely reject projects that affect the environment as well as threaten the general safety of the region, creating sustainable development for the West.

In the Western Nghe An region, many investment projects have been attracted, creating a driving force for economic and social development; typically: The industrial-scale dairy farming project in Nghia Dan district invested by TH Dairy Food Joint Stock Company with a project scale of 45,000 dairy cows. The project of growing vegetables and flowers in greenhouses in Nghia Dan with a scale of 104.7 hectares invested by Green Agricultural Equipment and Know-how Company; The dairy farming project in Dong Hieu (Thai Hoa) invested by Vinamilk Joint Stock Company, the total herd currently reaches 2,500 cows, of which 1,300 cows are milk cows;

Hoa Son Cassava Starch Processing Factory Project (Anh Son) with a capacity of 500 tons of fresh cassava roots/day, invested by Hoa Son Agricultural Products Processing Company Limited; Nghe An Wood Processing Factory Project invested by May Forestry Joint Stock Company with European technology, capacity of 130,000m3/year and 12,000m3/year of planks; Australian beef investment project of Kieu Phuong Company Limited in Tan Ky; Song Lam 2 Cement Project of The Vissai Group in Anh Son... The above projects have exploited the strong potential of land, forests, labor... of Western Nghe An, and created many jobs for workers, contributing positively to the provincial budget.
