The heavy, prolonged rain caused the match to be delayed by about 8 minutes while waiting for the water to drain from the pitch. However, the contest between the two teams continued like a waterlogged battle, and this greatly affected the playing style of both sides.
In the 28th minute, the home team Dong Nai took a 1-0 lead from a penalty kick scored by Oliveir. However, by the 30th minute, both teams were reduced to 10 players when referee Vo Minh Tri showed red cards to Thiago (Dong Nai) and Biayaga (SLNA) for fighting each other.
In the second half, the Nghe An team continuously attacked to find an equalizer, and in the 73rd minute, Sy Sam leveled the score at 1-1 for SLNA. Just two minutes later, Cong Vinh took the lead for the visitors from the penalty spot, making it 2-1.
The match didn't end there, as in the 90+3 minute, from a quick breakthrough, Phi Son scored with a powerful shot to seal a 3-1 victory for the visiting team, amidst the cheers of thousands of Nghe An fans in the stands.
