Donnarumma was convinced by the prospect of joining PSG. This is considered the idea of Mino Raiola, the goalkeeper's agent. Raiola was not satisfied with the contract signed by his client with Milan in the summer of 2017, and always tried to improve his benefits by spreading rumors to new clubs.
Last year, PSG also actively contacted the Italian goalkeeper, but the price of 40 million euros and incentives such as buying a house and buying a car from PSG did not convince either Donnarumma or Milan.
In addition to Donnarumma, PSG is also eyeing Atletico's Jan Oblak and AS Roma's Alisson. These are all goalkeepers with sky-high prices. But money is not a problem for PSG. Donnarumma is still the number one choice of the French team, he is too young, and ensures a long-term future in the PSG goal.
It is unclear how accurate this information is at the moment, but Milan are frantically looking for a way to keep their number one goalkeeper. If Donnarumma is sold, Milan will earn at least 70 million euros, but the solidity in the goal is something that the Rossoneri will find very difficult to regain without Donnarumma.
With their current financial resources, Milan can at most only afford a second-rate goalkeeper like Pepe Reina, Federico Marchetti, or at the most “luxurious” Mattia Perin. More importantly, Donnarumma is a symbol of Milan’s success in youth training. If they sell Donnarumma, Milan will be turning their backs on their own future. That’s the worst thing.
Donnarumma is at a disadvantage compared to Areola
Donnarumma has not been as impressive as PSG's number one goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. After 32 games this season, the PSG goalkeeper has conceded 26 goals and kept 16 clean sheets. Donnarumma has played 36 games for Milan and has also kept 16 clean sheets but has conceded 34 goals.
