Dortmund lost their fourth match in the last five Bundesliga rounds

November 18, 2017 07:06

Coach Peter Bosz and his team continued to plummet after losing 1-2 to Stuttgart in the early match of round 12 of the Bundesliga.

Goals: Akolo 5', Brekalo 51' - Philipp 45'+3

With the defeat at Stuttgart, Borussia Dortmund has gone seven consecutive matches without a win in all competitions. In the last five Bundesliga rounds alone, they have lost four and drawn one, and are in danger of falling nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich if the Bavarians get three points against Augsburg on the evening of November 18.

From the top of the table, the Ruhr team has slipped. They may lose their place in the top four of the Bundesliga. In the Champions League, Marco Reus and his teammates also have one foot out of the most prestigious tournament in Europe when they are five points behind the second-placed team in Group H - Real Madrid - while there are only two rounds left in the group stage.

One of the reasons for Dortmund's decline has been their poor defense. They have conceded 16 goals in seven games without a win, and that was repeated in the early game of round 12 of the Bundesliga. In the fifth minute, defender Marc Bartra and goalkeeper Roman Burki did not coordinate well, allowing the ball to bounce right in front of Chadrac Akolo's boot. The Congolese striker did not miss the opportunity, putting the ball into the empty net from close range.

Dortmund tried to recover from the early goal, but the absence of key striker Aubameyang made their fast counter-attacking style difficult. The Gabonese striker was suspended by Peter Bosz for indiscipline, when he refused to train and fled to Barcelona to party with former teammate Ousmane Dembele.

It wasn't until the first half's injury time that the yellow team equalized. A Stuttgart defender handled the ball in the penalty area after a pass from Mario Gotze. Andre Schurrle missed a penalty, but Maximilian Philipp was able to get in close to the goal.

Dortmund's joy was short-lived. Six minutes after the break, Josip Brekalo comfortably finished in the penalty area, surrounded by two away defenders.

Last season's German Cup winners could not recover from this loss, despite controlling the ball 63% of the time, and had to accept defeat with a score of 1-2.
