The arrested and prosecuted subjects include: Dao Quang Tri (born in 1982), Dang Ba Thuan (born in 1992), Nguyen Van Thong (born in 1994) and Trinh Trong Nhat (born in 1990), all residing in Dong Thanh commune. The seized evidence includes: 82 5cm nails; 1 lighter; 1 knife and 1 bottle of gasoline.
Previously, on the night of September 2, 2017, at the private home of Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan (Hong Nam hamlet, Quang Thanh commune, Yen Thanh), a rice harvester was burned and destroyed. This was the harvester that Mr. Phan Ba Than, residing in Dong Xuan hamlet, Dong Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, had left for him.
Confessing to the police, Mr. Than said that he had been threatened many times by “protectionists” harvesting rice in Yen Thanh to get the difference in money, but he did not agree. After that, they threatened to destroy the machines, beat people, etc. Among them, the group of young men led by Dao Quang Tri had many times “wars of words”, even beating Mr. Than up.
During the verification process, the Investigation Committee learned that Tri's two "juniors", Dang Ba Thuan and Nguyen Van Thong, had left the area. The police determined that Tri Tri's group had burned and destroyed Mr. Than's harvester in Quang Thanh commune in revenge.
After more than a month on the run, in early October 2017, when everything seemed to have gone smoothly, Thuan and Thong returned home from Ho Chi Minh City and were arrested by the police.

Based on the suspects' statements, on October 4, Yen Thanh District Police issued an emergency arrest warrant for Trinh Trong Nhat for concealing a crime because Nhat knew about the suspects' actions but did not report them.
Knowing that he could not escape the crime, on October 6, 2017, the ringleader Dao Quang Tri surrendered himself to the Investigation Police Agency of Yen Thanh District Police.
At the investigation agency, the subjects stated that due to a conflict with Mr. Than in arranging the rice harvester to operate in the area, at about 11:30 p.m. on September 2, Tri, Thong and Thuan rode two motorbikes to Quang Thanh commune to burn and destroy Mr. Than's harvester.
Here, Tri directed Thong to use a knife to cut the belt of the rice harvester and put 0.5 kg of nails in the engine compartment; then, Tri returned to the motorbike parking lot and gave Thong a bottle of gasoline to return and burn the rice harvester. After completing the act, all three got on their motorbikes and sped home.
The case is currently being investigated and expanded by Yen Thanh District Police.
