The 'Safe to School' project equips more than 13,000 students with traffic safety knowledge and skills.
(Baonghean.vn) - Prudential Vietnam (Prudential) has just coordinated with the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation (AIP) and the Gia Lai Provincial Traffic Safety Committee to launch the "Safe Schooling" project for the 2023-2024 school year.
Entering its fourth year, the project has improved knowledge and skills in traffic safety for more than 13,000 primary school students.
The project launching ceremony was held on November 14 at Ha Bau Primary School (Gia Lai province) with the participation of representatives from sponsor Prudential, AIP Fund, National Traffic Safety Committee, Ministry of Education and Training, Gia Lai Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, Gia Lai Provincial Department of Education and Training, School Board and relevant state management agencies. The event was also attended by more than 800 students and teachers of Ha Bau Primary School - direct beneficiaries of the project.
At the ceremony, students received helmets designed to fit their heads and were instructed on how to wear them properly, practicing the fun and easy-to-remember group dance "3 steps - welcome peace". Messages to raise awareness about traffic safety were vividly conveyed through many interactive games that attracted the response and active participation of students, teachers and parents.

Notably, the more than 800 helmets that the project gave to students this time came from contributions from Prudential Vietnam customers. Through the PruReward point exchange program “Joining hands with Prudential to give standard helmets to students”, 1,500 customers contributed more than 1,200 helmets and traffic safety documents. All of these gifts will be given to students in the project.
In the 2023-2024 school year, the project will be implemented in 9 primary schools in 3 provinces of Gia Lai, Yen Bai and Quang Ngai with the goal of improving the knowledge and skills of teachers and students on road traffic safety to protect them from the dangers of traffic accidents.

The main activities include: Comprehensive education for students on road safety, professional training for teachers to improve their teaching capacity on road safety, provision of high-quality helmets with standard head circumference measurements for students and teachers, improvement of traffic infrastructure around schools, reinforcement of road safety knowledge and skills through Traffic Safety Festival and 30 Days of Safe School Campaign with Gumball.
The new point of this year's project is to focus on standardizing the traffic safety document set, including: Developing a new topic on safe cycling; building detailed instructions, lesson plans for teachers and learning materials suitable for active teaching methods for students. The number of schools, students and teachers is doubled compared to the target of previous years.
Now in its fourth year of implementation in Vietnam, the “Safe Schooling” project has reached more than 13,000 students and nearly 700 teachers at 19 primary schools in 6 provinces and cities including Bac Giang, Dak Lak, Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Quang Ngai, and Gia Lai. Statistics show that the average helmet wearing rate of students at project schools increased from 27% to 85%, the level of understanding of road traffic safety also increased from 46% to 87%, along with many other impressive results.
