Western Nghe An Road Project: Efforts in the "final sprint" phase

(Baonghean) - Currently, the construction site of the West Nghe An road project is in its "final stage," with contractors mobilizing manpower, equipment, and machinery to focus on construction to ensure the project is completed by June 30, 2015.

The Western Nghe An road starts in Kim Son town - Que Phong district and ends in Muong Xen town - Ky Son district, with a length of 186 km and is divided into two phases. Currently, phase 1 (78 km from Kim Son to Tri Le) has been basically completed, and phase 2 (106 km) is being accelerated by the construction units with the determination to complete the project according to the requirements of the Department of Transport.

Due to construction taking place in a high mountainous area with complex weather conditions, but with the close direction and supervision of the investor, and the timely support of the local authorities in creating favorable conditions for the contractors, the units with good capabilities met the project requirements and were the first to complete the phase of the West Nghe An road project, namely Construction Investment Joint Stock Company No. 19.

Ms. Phan Thi Anh Dao, representative of Construction Investment Joint Stock Company No. 19, said: “In package No. 16, our unit is responsible for the construction from km 94 to km 98 and the construction of Ban San Bridge (Que Phong). Although the construction is in a complex area, we had to accelerate the progress to facilitate the work of the units undertaking the packages further along the route. Therefore, the company mobilized manpower and equipment to complete 4 km of road, 14 culverts, open Ban San Bridge, and reinforce 3 km of drainage ditches. Since the beginning of March 2015, the route has been in good traffic flow and has undergone acceptance testing. This is the first section of phase 2, and the early completion of the project has greatly supported other construction units in transporting materials and equipment for the project.”

Expedite the construction progress of the West Nghe An road.

Besides Construction Investment Joint Stock Company No. 19, the unit currently constructing the project connecting to the initial section (phase 2), undertaken by Nghe An Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company, has also completed its work. Responsible for construction from km 98 to km 102 and the Huoi Luong bridge (Que Phong), the route was basically opened in March 2015. To meet the deadline committed to the investor, two construction teams are currently working on the remaining 0.8 km of asphalt road surface and are determined to complete the project by June 15th.

For over a month, the weather in the high mountainous areas has been unpredictable, with prolonged periods of hot weather. However, this is the "final push" phase, so contractors are focusing on accelerating progress. Mr. Chu Trong Tu, the site manager of Company 482, said: “Due to the hot weather and high temperatures, the unit has chosen a suitable construction method to ensure progress and the health of the workers. With the goal of completing the project by June 20th, we have mobilized various types of rollers (static and vibratory), excavators, trucks, and 40 technical staff and workers to actively carry out the construction. The unit received the contract for this section from Bac Mien Trung Construction Joint Stock Company, with a length of 1.7 km of road, 10 culverts, and 120m of retaining walls… Currently, more than 1.4 km has been paved with asphalt, and in the past few days, the unit has focused on completing the asphalt paving of the remaining 300m of the project.” It is known that previously, Company 482 had basically completed the construction package for the section from km 107 to km 108 and the Xoi Voi bridge (Tuong Duong), so the Department of Transport assigned an additional contract to Bac Mien Trung Construction Joint Stock Company.

Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company 423 undertook the construction of one of the most difficult and challenging sections of the Western Nghe An road, specifically the section between km 119 and km 120 and the Na Hy bridge (Tuong Duong district). Thanks to the company's efforts, the project has met the schedule. To date, the most important component, the Na Hy bridge, has been completed and opened to traffic on June 10th. The asphalt paving will also be completed by June 15th. Similarly, other important construction packages in Ky Son district are also being expedited by the contractors. Hoa Hiep Company Limited, constructing the section between km 157 and km 161 and four bridges, has completed the Sop Tu section and paved 2 km. The remaining 2 km will be paved by two teams, aiming for completion by June 20th. At the Khe Bén bridge connecting Mai Sơn commune (Tương Dương district) and Mỹ Lý commune (Kỳ Sơn district), the construction unit completed the bridge and opened it on June 10th. At the Khe Lực bridge, the first slab of span 3 was launched on May 29th, and the bridge is expected to be open by June 30th…

The Western Nghe An Road Project has a total investment capital (both phases) of VND 2,127 billion. This is one of the province's key projects and, upon completion, will not only be of significant importance in ensuring national defense and security but also a driving force for socio-economic development in Western Nghe An. Mr. Ho Viet Vinh, Deputy Director of the Project Management Board for Transportation Works, Department of Transport, said: “Currently, the construction units are striving to accelerate progress. More than 82 km out of 106 km of the Western Nghe An Road project has already been paved with asphalt. Along with promptly addressing difficulties and obstacles during the project implementation, the Department of Transport is also focusing on directing contractors to speed up construction to complete and hand over the project before June 30, 2015.”
