The price increases of some goods during the April 30th - May 1st holiday, along with the rise in gasoline and gas prices, are the reasons why the consumer price index in May will increase slightly compared to the previous month.

According to the Price Management Department (Ministry of Finance), the consumer price index in May will increase slightly compared to April.

Specifically, due to the price calculation lag, the long holiday period from April 30th to May 1st is included in the May price index calculation. Therefore, the price increase of some goods and services such as food, dining out, passenger transport, and tourism during the holiday period will impact the price index for food, dining services, and transportation.

In addition, the delayed impact of the fuel price increase at the end of April on fuel groups in May, along with the stricter enforcement of regulations on vehicle load limits for road transport, will also have a certain impact on freight transportation costs in the coming period.

In addition, the upward adjustment in gas prices from the beginning of May and the increase in kerosene prices at the end of April will also contribute to the impact on the housing and construction materials sector. At the same time, some items such as clothing, hats, shoes, and household goods are likely to see a slight increase this month due to the changing weather and increased consumer demand.

However, according to the Price Management Department, May also saw several factors that helped reduce pressure on the overall price level. These included the forecast that prices of many essential raw materials and fuels on the world market would only fluctuate slightly. Domestically, the balance between supply and demand for goods and services remained stable, and purchasing power did not fluctuate significantly.

Prices of some essential goods and services are also forecast to remain stable or decrease, such as food, urea fertilizer, milk, cement, steel, etc. Simultaneously, ministries, sectors, and localities will continue to strengthen price management and stabilization efforts as directed by the Prime Minister and relevant ministries and sectors, contributing to market price stability.

Earlier in April, due to the changing weather, many diseases broke out, significantly affecting people's daily lives.

In addition, the commodity market is sluggish, with abundant supply and low demand, leading to a decrease in prices for some goods such as food (in the South), foodstuffs (in some northern provinces), liquefied petroleum gas, etc.
