Vietnamese students in the Netherlands compete in wrapping banh chung to celebrate Tet
The contest of wrapping Chung cake or the contest of seeing who can cut the cake with the most beautiful string is just one part of many meaningful activities to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dog of Vietnamese students studying in the Netherlands.
On February 11, the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in the Netherlands joined in the Mau Tuat New Year Celebration event organized by the Vietnamese Embassy with many meaningful activities.
2018 marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands. Speaking at the ceremony held at the embassy, Ambassador Ngo Thi Hoa expressed her emotions and informed about Vietnam's economic, political and social achievements in the past year.
After the national anthem, the Vietnamese Student Association in the Netherlands presented special performances.
The highlight of the ceremony was the performance by overseas Vietnamese children from the Vietnamese Language class. After 4 months of studying, the children were able to sing many songs from their homeland.
In addition, the contest of wrapping banh chung or seeing who can peel and cut banh chung with bamboo strings the most beautifully and quickly also contributes to creating a lively atmosphere.
Many dishes with strong hometown flavors were served at the ceremony.
Nguyen Khanh Ly, president of the Vietnamese Student Association in the Netherlands, said that for students studying abroad, the spring reunion is an opportunity for them to enjoy many traditional Tet dishes, as well as to reunite, receive lucky money, and somewhat ease their homesickness.
