According to TASS, the two leaders also discussed recent complicated developments in the East Sea. Both sides agreed that border and territorial disputes, including those in the East Sea, need to be resolved by peaceful means, without using force or threatening to use force, on the basis of respect for international law.

With the title "The warm embrace of the Russian President and the Vietnamese President - a symbol of the relationship between the two countries", Sputnik news agency published photos and content of the talks between the two leaders.

According to Sputnik, "the meeting between President Vladimir Putin and President Tran Dai Quang began in a symbolic way - not with a traditional diplomatic handshake but with a warm embrace.

Holding each other's shoulders, the Russian President and the Vietnamese President expressed the deepest and best feelings of friendship, brotherhood, sympathy and support that the peoples of the two countries have for each other.

According to the news agency, during the talks that lasted more than two hours, President Vladimir Putin and President Tran Dai Quang discussed all aspects of cooperation, with a special focus on economic cooperation. The two leaders also discussed joint investment projects worth 10 billion USD.

Sputnik news agency also reported on the meeting between President Tran Dai Quang and Chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov, and quoted Mr. Zyuganov as affirming, "We will do everything to strengthen relations with the brotherly, intelligent, brave and resilient country of Vietnam."

The leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation praised Vietnam as a reliable ally: "For us, developing relations with Vietnam is an important principled requirement and this relationship has historical roots."

According to a VNA correspondent in Moscow, on the same day, the Kremlin Press Agency issued a statement saying that this was the first visit to the Russian Federation by President Tran Dai Quang, who plays an important role in the country's foreign policy, representing the State in the international arena and signing international agreements.

Associate Professor of the Faculty of International Relations at the Diplomatic Academy - Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Petr Tsvetov, in an interview with RT television channel, assessed the visit as evidence that the relationship between the Russian Federation and Vietnam is maintained at the highest level, is a relationship of mutual trust and covers all areas, from diplomacy, economy, defense to security.

Russia has traditionally had friendly relations with Vietnam. The former Soviet Union and Vietnam established diplomatic relations in 1950. The Soviet Union also supported Vietnam in its struggle against French colonialism and American aggression.

Despite a decline in the 1990s, bilateral relations have developed positively again since 2001, after Russian President Vladimir Putin's official visit to Vietnam and the signing of a joint statement on the strategic partnership between the two countries.

This visit of President Tran Dai Quang focuses on economic content, which is considered the foundation for building good political relations. The promising directions for developing economic relations are oil and gas, machine manufacturing, and military technology.

Associate Professor Tsvetov emphasized that Vietnam is important to Russia as a fulcrum in the rapidly developing Southeast Asian region. According to this expert, if Russia wants to consolidate its position in this region, which is considered the center of the world, with economic and political concentration, Russia must develop relations with Vietnam.

In addition, Vietnam is also the country with which Russia has the most potential to develop relations among ASEAN countries, thanks to traditional relations dating back to the Soviet era.

In addition, Mr. Tsvetov also noted that President Tran Dai Quang's visit also has the meaning of an acquaintance between the President and Russian President V. Putin, an opportunity for the two sides to learn about each other's views on issues, especially international issues.
