After three transits, on July 19, Cathay Pacific's long-haul flight CX 5297 finally brought four Vietnamese sailors who had an accident in South Africa back to their homeland.

The returning crew members are Chu Van Tuan (born in 1985); Mong Van Khieu (born in 1995); Pham Van Quyet (born in 1989), Le Van Luan (born in 1993), all from Nghe An.

At Noi Bai Airport, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (Vietnam MRCC) sent a working group to receive and hand over the rescued crew members to their families and ship owner representatives.

Also here, Mr. Tran Hai Trieu, Deputy General Director of Vietnam MRCC, congratulated the 4 crew members who had escaped and returned, and presented the crew members with gifts from the Ministry of Transport and Vietnam Maritime Administration.

As reported, at 1:35 a.m. on July 11, Vietnam MRCC received direct information from the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center of Cape Town, South Africa (MRCC Cape Town) stating that at 12:53 p.m. UTC (19:53; Vietnam time) on July 9, 2017, at a location 344 nautical miles east of Richards Bay, South Africa, the fishing vessel HSIANG FUH No.6, Taiwanese nationality, sank at sea.

At that time, the ships at the scene included the EVER DIADEM ship which rescued 16 people and the SBI ANTARES ship which rescued 14 people on the fishing boat in distress, including 4 Vietnamese. Afterwards, the survivors were brought to the port of DURBAN, South Africa.
