This year, during the Canh Ty Lunar New Year, the bonsai coconut pot shaped like a mouse costs about 600,000 VND and is very popular.

2020 is the year of the Rat, so ornamental plants and bonsai are shaped like mice by gardeners to wish for a lucky year. In order to create uniqueness for the market, this year many gardeners create bonsai coconuts shaped like mice. Although it has only been launched for more than 2 weeks, this product is quite popular.

Mr. Hoa, in Thu Dau Mot (Binh Duong) said that this year, he supplied about 100 pots to the market, each pot costing 600,000 VND. His family can only produce about 5 pots per day. "In the first year of production, the number of orders has reached 80%, many customers ordered but could not produce in time because this type of product takes a lot of time and the seedlings must be incubated 1-2 years in advance," Mr. Hoa said.

Also saying that the product was "sold out", Mr. Thang in Vung Tau stopped accepting orders despite the increase in customers. "This is the first time I've launched the product this year, so I can't keep up with the orders. Therefore, I can only supply about 20 regular customers in the area," Mr. Thang said.

To create the mouse shape, he had to prepare half a year in advance. Because it was his first time, he only ordered based on the number of orders because he did not know if the market would accept it. However, he promised to release a larger quantity with more unique animal shapes next year.

As a mass producer, Mr. Le Hong Quan (33 years old, Chau Thanh, Ben Tre) has created about 1,000 unique mouse-shaped coconut bonsai pots and sells them retail for 600,000 VND, and wholesale depending on the number of customers ordering.

Mr. Quan said that so far, all the goods have been ordered by wholesale customers. "Many customers have placed additional orders, but I dare not accept them because I am too exhausted and do not have enough strength to produce," Mr. Quan said.

According to Mr. Quan, this type of bonsai is very elaborate, the most difficult step is peeling the shell so that the coconut roots are not damaged, the coconut trunk is not broken and the coconut shell is always smooth. Bonsai coconut shaped like an animal must be "nurtured" for about 6 months in a soil ball for the roots to be healthy, growing 15-20 cm above the ground and selecting standard trees to put in the pot. Currently, he has 2 types, bonsai coconut shaped like a mouse with standing and sitting postures. The standing posture is created from bonsai coconut with tall roots, while the sitting posture is made from bonsai coconut with short roots. Although there are 2 postures of standing and sitting, Mr. Quan creates many different models such as, thinking mouse, charming mouse, carrying school bag, hamster mouse...

To create the shape of a mouse, the bonsai coconut trees after being nourished with roots will be bonded with coconut shells, cut and assembled into pieces. Only the mouse eyes are not made from coconut shells but must be purchased from the store.
