Japanese cucumbers exported from Dien Chau (Nghe An) reach 2.5 tons per sao (approximately 1000 square meters).
(Baonghean.vn) - This spring, farmers in Dien Chau are collaborating with businesses to grow Japanese cucumber varieties. They are currently harvesting with high yields, approximately 2.5 tons per sao (a unit of land measurement).

In Dien An commune, this spring, farmers have switched 6 hectares of land previously used for peanut cultivation to growing Japanese cucumbers. This is the first time they've grown this new variety, so the company provided them with seeds, pesticides, trellises, technical guidance and supervision, and purchased their produce after harvest.
Just 30 days after planting, the cucumbers begin to bear fruit, and the harvesting period can last from 1.5 to 2 months. Unlike local cucumbers, the Japanese variety produces long fruits measuring 35-50cm, with dense flesh and almost no seeds; each fruit can weigh over 400g.

Ms. Hoang Thi Dao from Hamlet 2, Dien An Commune, said: "I cultivate 2 sao (approximately 2,000 square meters) of Japanese cucumbers. Initial investment was subsidized, so costs weren't high, and planting and caring for them required absolute safety. With a long harvesting period, each sao can yield more than 2.5 tons, about 1 ton more than other cucumber varieties. According to the contract, the purchasing company buys them at a minimum price of 3,000 VND/kg."
Practical experience has shown that melons can be grown in both winter and spring seasons.

According to Mr. Le The Hieu, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Dien Chau district: In the spring of 2019, the entire district conducted a trial planting of Japanese cucumber varieties in two communes, Dien Hoang and Dien An, covering an area of 10 hectares. Initial results show that this cucumber variety is suitable for the soil in Dien Chau, yielding an average of 2.5 tons per sao (approximately 1000 square meters).
At a price of 3000 VND/kg, farmers earn over 7 million VND per sao (approximately 1000 square meters), double the income from growing peanuts. All the melons are purchased, processed, and exported to the Japanese market by a partner enterprise.
