Currently, farmers are entering the mass harvest of spring cantaloupes, with each plot yielding a profit of over 10 million VND after deducting expenses.

Farmers are focusing on harvesting, with yields reaching 1.2 tons per sao (approximately 1000 square meters).

This year marks the fourth year that Ms. Ngo Thi Thuy, from Hamlet 2, Dien Ky commune, has been growing Thien Mat melons on an area of ​​3 sao (approximately 0.3 hectares). After 55 days of planting, the melons are ready for harvest. She said that the advantages of Thien Mat melons are their high resistance to pests and diseases, high drought tolerance, and low labor and investment costs.

The melons are round, beautiful, and have a mild, sweet, and fragrant flavor. The plants thrive during the driest months of March to June, yet still produce consistent, high-quality fruit. Ms. Thuy harvests and sells the melons directly from the field. These days, traders from various places come to buy melons from the farmers at prices ranging from 13,000 to 15,000 VND per kilogram.

The Le Thien Mat melon variety has been widely cultivated and proven effective in the northern provinces. Beginning in 2010, Dien Chau district began trial cultivation on 1 hectare in Dien Ky commune. Due to its suitability to the soil and high yield, the melon cultivation area has increased annually.

This spring, Dien Chau district planted 15 hectares of cantaloupe. Currently, farmers are busy harvesting, with yields reaching 1.2 tons per sao (approximately 1000 square meters). They are selling the melons directly from the fields at an average price of 13-15 thousand dong per kilogram, resulting in a profit of 10 million dong per sao after deducting expenses. Traders are buying the melons and distributing them to various markets for resale.

Thiên Mật melons are currently a high-income crop in Diễn Châu. Therefore, after harvesting, farmers continue to plant another crop of melons to sell in August.
