Speaking at the opening ceremony of Vietnam's leading modern radiotherapy service center, which meets international standards, Professor Nguyen Thanh Liem - General Director of Vinmec International General Hospital, said that the center is equipped with a modern system of equipment imported entirely from the United States and Europe.
The Varian Clinac iX linear accelerator is also one of the most modern radiotherapy machines currently used by several hospitals in Southeast Asian countries. With its superior advantage of rotating and irradiating simultaneously, the machine can treat tumors in any location in the body, optimizing treatment effectiveness by narrowing the radiation field, reducing side effects, protecting healthy tissue, and focusing all radiation on the tumor's core. With this equipment, the success rate of cancer treatment in Vietnam can be on par with other countries in the region.
In addition, the center is equipped with a CT-SIM machine, one of the most advanced diagnostic imaging systems in the world today, and a comprehensive system of supporting equipment.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Xuyen said that in the field of cancer prevention and control, the number of cancer patients is increasing. Each year in Vietnam, there are 150,000 new cancer patients, of which only about 70,000 are cured due to early detection and treatment.
Ms. Xuyen emphasized that many public hospitals are currently unable to meet the healthcare needs of the people, leading to situations where many patients have to share beds, such as at the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital and K Hospital…
According to oncology experts, cancer treatment methods are becoming increasingly diverse and advanced. However, radiotherapy remains a particularly important method because it can be applied to many tumor locations and cancer stages, and can be prescribed independently or combined with other methods to enhance effectiveness.
According to various statistics, radiotherapy is prescribed for 50-70% of cancer patients of all types.
