Drilling cluster bombs to get explosives, one person died
Preparing many cluster bombs and warheads to drill for explosives, a man died when the first one exploded.
On June 15, Mr. Dinh Van Bat - Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Cao commune, Son Ha district (Quang Ngai) said that the district military agency had seized 3 cluster bombs and 3 warheads after the explosion that killed one person.
The previous afternoon, Mr. Dinh Van Trai (51 years old, in Son Cao commune, Son Ha district) prepared 4 cluster bombs, 3 warheads to drill, defuse, and get the explosives. When drilling the first bomb, the bomb exploded, causing his foot to be severed and a piece of shrapnel to be embedded in his chest, leading to his death.
Quang Ngai is one of the provinces that has suffered heavy damage from bombs, mines and explosives. According to statistics from the Ministry of Labor, from 1975 to present, bombs, mines and explosives accidents have killed about 1,400 people and injured about 1,500 people.
Quang Ngai has organized many campaigns to collect and handle 2,848 bombs, mines and explosives. Out of a total area of over 200,000 hectares containing bombs and mines, only about 3,600 hectares have been cleared so far./.
