Germany threatens to sanction Russia depending on the situation with Ukraine
(Baonghean.vn) - German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said on December 19 that the German government could carry out its threat of sanctions against Russia depending on the context of the situation in Ukraine.
“We must use all our capabilities to prevent escalation,” said Christine Lambrecht.

Responding to journalists' questions about whether Berlin was ready to send the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) to support Ukraine, the head of the Ministry of Defense avoided a direct answer. "We must use all possibilities in terms of diplomacy and economic sanctions. All further steps must be discussed and coordinated closely within the alliance (NATO)," the German Defense Minister said.
Lambrecht also noted that she “understands Ukraine’s fears” and will make her first foreign trip as defense minister to Lithuania, where she will visit NATO’s Rapid Reaction Force to get a sense of “how the soldiers see the situation.”
At the same time, when asked whether Nord Stream 2 could become part of the sanctions package, she stressed that "it is necessary to use all the tools that we have."
“Those responsible for aggressive behavior must feel the consequences for themselves. For example, they cannot go shopping on the Champs-Elysees in Paris,” Ms. Lambrecht added./.
