Germany pushes for Russia to transport gas through Ukraine
German Economy Minister Peter Altmayer has explained why Germany needs Nord Stream 2.
“We will not allow ourselves to become dependent on the Russian Federation. It is about cutting supply routes and creating new supply structures, because in the coming years our demand for gas will increase significantly,” Peter Altmayerg explained.

Mr. Altmeier added that in the near future, Germany will abandon coal and nuclear energy, and in the transition period, Berlin will have to switch to gas turbine plants, which will significantly increase the demand for gas.
For the same reason, Germany is paying significant attention to building terminals to receive US shale gas, he noted.
Finally, he declared that he would make every effort to ensure that Russia maintains gas transit through Ukrainian territory.
